SCHOOLS HISTORICAL BACKGROUND.

The school is located in Nakuru County of Nakuru North district, Bahati Division, Mugumo Village, Bahati Ward Bahati Centre. It is on the floor of the rift valley neighbouringNyandarua ranges to the east and the Mau ranges to the south west. It is about 2000m above sea level, on latitude 00.090135 south and longitude 36.08973 east.

The school was started in 2006 as an initiative of the parents in response to the need for free, affordable accessible secondary education. This was necessitated the high in flux of standard 8 leavers within the region. Space was curved out of St Lwanga Primary School for construction of classrooms. Personnel and facilities were also borrowed from the primary school. Parents and the C.D.F. provided monies to put up the first 2 classrooms. It was began as a wed district day school. The first batch of students sat for K.C.S.E. in 2009. St Lwanga Primary School ; being catholic sponsored, J. M. Kariuki Memorial Secondary School enjoys the same sponsorship. The then area M.P. Hon. KoigiWaWamwere was instrumental in the naming of the school. The school was managed first by the primary school head until 2008, when T.S.C. posted the first head teacher Ms Susan Mundia. A number of teachers were posted to the institution during the same period. This was precipitated by the 2008 post election violence.
